Enel X Store in Rome: the first urban area for ultrafast recharging with smart solutions for homes and mobility
Enel X opens Rome's first area for the ultrafast charging of electric vehicles and the European "CEUC" (Central European Ultra Charging) project's first HPC (High Power Charging) site, in collaboration with Volkswagen Group Italia. The Enel X Store at Corso Francia 212 offers energy efficiency technologies, financial services, and electric mobility solutions, as well as a refreshment area. The store was officially opened today by the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, the CEO of Enel X, Francesco Venturini, and the CEO of Volkswagen Group Italia, Massimo Nordio.
“The opening of the Enel X Store is another important and fundamental step towards making Rome increasingly smarter and greener. This has been achieved thanks to the investment and collaboration of great entrepreneurial initiatives like the one between Enel X and Volkswagen Group Italia. Through this new initiative, we are increasing the presence of electric charging points in the city and encouraging the use of zero-emission vehicles. This is a further addition, which perfectly fits within Rome's ongoing work on sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and innovation. The introduction of electric vehicles is rapidly becoming a reality and its promotion is at the heart of policies and programs that are being implemented within a general framework of ecological transition. Rome is therefore becoming a benchmark for achieving sustainable development goals and for environmental protection,” said the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.

This state-of-the-art project is accessible to everyone, and once again demonstrates Enel X's commitment to making its know-how in the field of advanced energy services available to customers," said Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X.

The Enel X Store on Corso Francia is the first urban ultrafast area with four HPC stations, enabling four vehicles to be charged at the same time. These are the CEUC project’s first four ultrafast stations in Italy, co-financed by the European Commission under the Connecting Europe Facility Transport 2017 call. Each charging point has an output of up to 350 kW and enables electric cars that are compatible with high-power charging to fully recharge in about 20 minutes. In addition to the ultrafast chargers, there is also a JuicePole, the 22 kW + 22 kW public charging station, and a JuiceMedia, the integrated digital screen with two charging stations, reserved for the test drives of the brands of Volkswagen Group Italia. Different solutions for a complete, convenient and fast charging experience that gives the opportunity to have a coffee in the store's bar area while waiting, and to find out about and try Enel X's sustainable technologies and products for the home and electric mobility.
The store will host the 100% electric models from the Volkswagen Group Italia brands (Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, CUPRA, ŠKODA and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles) in rotation, starting with Volkswagen ID.3, the car that marks the beginning of a new era of mobility. Specific activities are planned for both customers who have already chosen a Volkswagen Group car, and for those interested in discovering zero-emission mobility, with dedicated workshops, consultations and the possibility of test drives.
Mobility Innovation and Management: second edition of the Master in collaboration with Volkswagen Group ItaliaThe second edition of the MIMA (Mobility Information and Management) began in mid-March. Volkswagen Group Italia is the Main Partner of the postgraduate master’s program offered by Ca’ Foscari University. The start of a new course of studies confirms that the program, offered by the School of Management of Ca’ Foscari Challenge School, responds well to the need of the labor market to find professionals specifically trained to be able to manage and accelerate the transformation of the mobility system, bearing in mind sustainability from an economic, environmental and social point of view.This path is perfectly aligned with the decarbonization target of the Paris Agreement and with the consequent business strategy of the Volkswagen Group. The whole Company is fully committed for the transformation from car manufacturer to provider of electric, sustainable and digital mobility. Massive investments are planned but they are not enough; every Subsidiary must engage actively. Therefore Volkswagen Group Italia promotes many initiatives as well and, among the many projects some are in support of education. “We deem it a fundamental prerequisite for the transition. MIMA, The master to train the automotive mangers of tomorrow, is about to startThe II level University Master's Degree in Mobility Innovation and Management (MIMA), result of the partnership between Volkswagen Group Italia and the University of Venice, was presented today at the headquarter of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
The Master in MIMA is a highly specialized course of study, designed and developed by the Center for Automotive and Mobility Innovation (CAMI) - a research institute of excellence operating within the Department of Management of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
Volkswagen Group Italia is the main sponsor of the initiative. A strongly desired partnership, as confirmed by CEO Massimo Nordio: “The transformation of our Group is not limited to the production of electric models, to autonomous driving and to the development of digital services. It is a 360-degree transformation, which is reflected in all our daily activities. Investing in training is one of the pillars of our strategy, and for us it is important to be partner of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for this project, first of its kind. The concept of mobility is evolving rapidly and it is clear that, to manage the business, the managerial approach typical of the "traditional" automotive sector will no longer be sufficient: a much broader vision, inclination for rapid change and transversal skills will be needed. Already in 2018 we sensed the need to optimize our organization, creating the role of Future Mobility Manager and paving the way to innovation also in terms of human resources, and we will continue to work in this direction".
The Master, provided by Ca’ Foscari Challenge School, lasts one year, it will welcome 20 students and includes 300 hours of full-time teaching in the period between March and May 2020, to which 250 hours of internship must be added - intended as an additional training opportunity that will make the access to the labour market easier - and the preparation of the final thesis. The internship can be substituted with the drafting of a specific project work, for example for the participants that are already professionally engaged in the sector.
The MIMA will entirely be held in English and it is structured in 6 modules: Mobility, Management, Technology, Tools, Opportunities and Experiences. All the aspects of the business linked to the mobility of tomorrow will be considered, with a coherent and well-defined path that will start from the definition of the principles of sustainable mobility in economic, environmental and social terms. A focus on the management field will follow, with considerations on the organization of innovation for the new ecosystem.
A technological in-depth analysis will follow, analysing the evolution of the drive train and the main trends of the sector: connected vehicles, Internet of Things, autonomous driving, product architectures, micro-mobility and infrastructures. The following module will focus on the new ‘tools of the trade’: from the analysis of consumer behaviour to an overview of the tools available to policy makers, to new opportunities related to urban development. The didactic part will end with the observation of the competitive dynamics of the new ecosystem of mobility and of the related business development strategies.
Volkswagen Group Italia, which took part in the definition of the study plan, will actively participate to the lessons and will offer the participants the opportunity to carry out the internship at the company. In addition, the Technology module will be held at the VGImobilityLab, a facility dedicated to innovation training within the Verona headquarters, where teaching and testing on the proving ground of 18.000 m2 will alternate.

Making culture about tomorrow's mobility: Volkswagen Group Italia at the Festival of the FutureVolkswagen Group Italia supports the 2019 Festival of the Future, an event that represents a time for discussion upon the challenges and the opportunities of tomorrow with today's most important "future makers".
Promoted by Harvard Business Review Italia, by Eccellenze d'Impresa and by the Athesis Publishing Group, the Festival hosts speakers of excellence, many of them coming from the international academic world, who are going to talk about some of the most impactful trends for the society and for the world. GIMO: an ad hoc Master’s Programme for the automotive managers of the futureVolkswagen Group Italia develops its own strategy for the mobility of the future establishing a partnership in the field of education with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
A prestigious name like Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a topic perfectly aligned with the commitment of Volkswagen Group Italia: on this basis, an agreement was reached featuring Volkswagen Group Italia as a partner in the Master’s Programme in Management and Innovation of Mobility (GIMO), offered by the University of Venice. The collaboration was officialised today in the presence of the Chancellor Michele Bugliesi and of the CEO of Volkswagen Group Italia Massimo Nordio.
Along with the concept of mobility, the skills necessary to deal with and manage the daily business are changing too. Speeding up change means pushing boundaries and creating new opportunities. Beginning with these premises, Volkswagen Group Italia intends to play a leading role in this transition, contributing concretely to the field of education as well.
The Master’s Programme in Management and Innovation of Mobility (GIMO) was conceived and developed by the Center for Automotive and Mobility Innovation (CAMI), a research facility of excellence that works under the direction of Professor Francesco Zirpoli within the Department of Management of the University of Venice. The Master’s Programme aims to train new professional figures who will be able to integrate different skills, such as in Economics and Management, as well as competences in urban planning and in development and planning of sustainable systems.
The Master’s Programme will be hosted by Ca’ Foscari Challenge School. Volkswagen Group Italia will support the educational program in the first three years with scholarships, with the possibility of carrying out project works in its own structures and with the contribution of its management in developing educational contents.
Six highly interdisciplinary modules are planned: Mobility, Management, Technology, Tools, Opportunities and Experiences – which in turn are divided in 23 courses and internships. Teaching will be constantly kept up-to-date in relation to the emerging trends and there will always be contact between the students and the most advanced business enterprises.
The experts trained in the Master’s Programme will be able to understand the needs of the stakeholders of the new mobility systems, working as mediators between different contexts with the ability to recognise new ways of coordination and new business models, paying particular attention to sustainability.

At the moment, the ability of the different actors to integrate know-how and coordinate their own actions - that means to ‘manage’ the ‘development’ of the sustainable mobility in a harmonious way - is strongly penalised by the belonging of the experts of the automotive sector and of the mobility to communities that find it very difficult to interact. For example, the actors of the automotive industry on the one hand, and urban planners, planners of mobility systems, service providers and other similar figures, on the other hand”, explains Francesco Zirpoli, Scientific Director of CAMI and Coordinator of the Master’s Programme. “We are sure that this Master’s Programme will create value for its students and contribute to the development of a culture for an actually sustainable and accessible future mobility.”
Volkswagen Group Italia’s attention for specific management positions, aligned with a new concept of mobility, is not new. The role of Future Mobility Manager was created already in 2018: a strategic choice in order to deal with the challenges of the future, to support the spreading of new technologies and to facilitate the development of new mobility services.
Electrify Verona: smart poles for fast charging installed. The first in Europe.The first fast charging infrastructure of this kind in Europe was presented in Verona. They are light poles that can fast charge the connected electric vehicles (22 kW) and provide other services such as Wi-Fi connection, video monitoring of the surrounding area and air quality monitoring. In addition to this, the poles are connected to the network and so they become part of the Internet of Things, helping to make Verona a fully-fledged smart city.
“There is still a long way towards a totally electric mobility, but this second phase of the project Electrify Verona is a further step forward in this direction. Indeed, to facilitate the spread of electric mobility it is not enough just to encourage the purchase of zero emission vehicles. It is also necessary to set up an adequate infrastructure and organization to support its use. This is why Volkswagen Group Italia has concentrated efforts on concrete projects such as Electrify Verona as well as others,” commented Massimo Nordio, CEO of Volkswagen Group Italia, during the presentation.
“Services of this kind, in support of e-mobility, help to bring drivers closer to totally electric vehicles, while increasing their spread,” added Stefano Sordelli, Future Mobility Manager of Volkswagen Group Italia. “We believe that the fast charging points’ widespread presence in the urban environment is crucial to this”.
This second phase of Electrify Verona will lead to the installation of other 10 smart poles in the City during 2019 – 12 total, 2 of which, already operating, can be booked through the mobile application “SmartAppVerona” – with the aim of installing 100 charging points by 2021. Their presence is also planned in the peripheral neighborhoods, in order to expand electric mobility in the adjacent areas too.
Launched in September 2018, the project Electrify Verona has already helped the spread of e-mobility thanks to a first set of initiatives: from free access to the limited access area of the city center to free parking, from charging stations to a free Wall Box for the inhabitants of Verona who will purchase an electric vehicle, of any brand. Indeed, albeit low market shares, more and more people choose zero emission mobility: during 2018 in the City of Verona electric vehicles registrations have risen by 86% compared to the previous year. This data has also been confirmed from the energy demand: AGSM has supplied 30 thousand kWh at the end of 2018 through the current charging points network, which is the equivalent of the recharge for 3thousand vehicles.
